Chokwe Tribal Power Figure Statue of Congo | 6″
The Chokwe reside in southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo and northwestern Angola. People of the Chokwe tribe worship nature spirits and ancestors. Thus, when bad situations arise, they look to the will of the ancestors. To do this, the Chokwe personified their chiefs and ancestors in the form of figures. This one looks to be very old but was probably made for sale. It is, however, a very nice example of the genre.
