African Recycled Metal Can Toy Jeep Rocket Launcher – Burkina Faso
Traditionally, all children in Africa make their own toys out of found materials: discarded cans, wire, old sandals, tires, etc. Following this long-standing tradition modern artists are creating art in all kinds of forms. This jeep rocket launcher – what was called a “technical” in the Somali confict – was made by such an artist but it could have been a toy a child might have made for him or herself. Each toy of this style is unique so it may vary slightly from the one pictured here.
Although this could have been a toy in Africa we consider it only to be a decorative object. It is NOT appropriate as a toy for a child unless it’s the African child who made it.
