Brass Covered Bakota Reliquary – Gabon
The Kota people – known as Bakota (the prefix Ba- means “people”) – of Gabon are famous for the reliquary figures they make. If this were an authentic figure than it would have been presented in a receptacle filled with the partial remains of a family member who had died. The entire memorial thus formed would be kept by the family in honor of the deceased ancestor. This object can be displayed on a stand as in the photos here or it can be hung on a wall. The price includes this stand.
