Earth tone checkerboard cylinder tightest weave Batwa basket
These Batwa baskets stand out among African baskets due to their exceptionally tightly woven, small coils as well as their contemporary designs. The Batwa – the Twa people, a “pygmy” people – live in the border area of southwestern Uganda, northwestern Rwanda and eastern Congo, in the area of the Ruwenzori Mountains, in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. They live among a native gorilla population just like we live among whitetail deer.
