Vintage Elephant Fetish Object – Ivory Coast
Animal fetish objects of all kinds are used to promote well-being in every sense for the owner and his household. Their mere presence is protective but are also useful in rituals and family ceremonies designed to promote the health, prosperity and longevity of the individual, his family and his village. This elephant is one such object. It is authentic, having been used for many years. The smooth top was probably used to put something of ritual significance on, either another object or a substance.
